January142012

1/10

The first week of winter quarter 2012 has ended, and now we have a three-day weekend! Man, I can’t wait to sleep-in tomorrow morning. I wake up at 6 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 6:30 am on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. The nice part is that I am done with classes by noon. But then I have to work. Oh well, take the good with the bad. I am taking four classes and only working 13 hours. I require a shitload of studying in order to do well, so although 13 hours may not seem like a lot.. IT IS TO ME, haha.

WFC 130 - Wildlife Ecophysiology
WFC 141 - Behavioral Ecology
RST 012  - Emergence of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam
PHY 1B - Introduction to Physics (part two)

Finally, I am taking the meat and potatoes of wildlife courses. Did I use that phrase correctly? Haha. Prior to now, I have only taken one WFC class. Upper division WFC classes are tough though. My WFC 141 professor, Caro, basically told us not to expect an A. The goal is to understand the subject. Naturally, I assume that one would imply the other, but I guess that’s not always true. I’ll still try though. Taking four classes always makes me nervous, I always end up getting a C in one of them! I guess three classes are my brain’s capacity (to do well).

Searching for jobs for the summer is a tedious process. I’m always excited to what research opportunities are out there, because there are so many to choose from, but being pigeonholed into one is stressful. I always think, what if something betters comes along? I know I’ve said it many times, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to work with Dr. Holekamp’s research team. Studying hyenas in Kenya for two months would pretty much make my year. Maybe even my life. I won’t be devastated if I don’t get it, because it’s crazy competitive, but damn. Other possibilities include studying primrose in the Sierra Nevada or working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Arizona, New Mexico, or Texas.

Aside from the nitty gritty of academia, I’m forever working on self-improvement. There’s a lot of shit going on and it’s hard to remember who I am sometimes. Lol.
